About this collection

The Louisiana Black History Hall of Fame's mission is to educate the public, reduce racism and inspire achievement. Through learning about the contribution of all races, respect between races will promote peace and reduce racism. Founder Brenda Perry first began to develop the concept of a Louisiana Black History Hall of Fame in 1988. In 1989, the Hall was registered with the State of Louisiana and a board of directors was assembled. The first Torches of Life Awards, awards that recognize men and women who have contributed to the African American Community was awarded. In 2001 the LBHHF moves into the Historic Lincoln Theater in Baton Rouge. Currently the effort to restore this historic building and create a permanent home for the Louisiana Black History Hall of Fame Museum is underway.
